A flying lap from AKKA-ASP Racing driver Daniel Juncadella (left) has put Mercedes on pole position for the second round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup at Silverstone.

Driving the #88 Mercedes AMG-GT3, Juncadella set a time of 1:59.072s to head the third and final qualifying session, giving the German manufacturer its first pole of the Endurance Cup season.

The former European F3 champion – who shares the Mercedes with Felix Serralles and Tristan Vautier – lapped 0.225 seconds quicker than the championship-leading Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Mirko Bortolotti, who missed out on pole when a late red flag interrupted his final flying lap.

The stoppage was caused by a Black Falcon Mercedes which came to a halt on-track before self-recovering.

Another red flag period was called during the second session when Dries Vanthoor slid his Audi R8 LMS into the gravel at Copse before going on to qualify 21st.

Bortolotti will contest the race alongside Grasser Racing team-mates Christian Engelhart and Andrea Caldarelli.

Third fastest overall was Franck Perera in the #84 HTP Motorsport Mercedes AMG-GT3, which topped the second qualifying session.

Perera, Maximilian Buhk and Jimmy Eriksson will share the second row of the grid with the Davide Rigon/Victor Shaytar/Miguel Molina Ferrari 488 GT3 entered by SMP Racing.

Completing the top six were Pro-Am category pole sitting AKKA-ASP Mercedes and the yellow AF Corse Ferrari.

The highest-placed Bentley Continental GT3 finished 12th with Steven Kane behind the wheel.

The 3 Hours of Silverstone is set to go green later today (Sunday, May 14th) at 14:55 local time.
