Jean Todt has announced he will seek a third term as president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), when his current tenure comes to an end in December this year.
The former Ferrari boss announced the news in a letter to FIA club presidents, which he also posted on his personal Twitter account with the following message: "Today I was proud to announce to all FIA Club Presidents my decision to run for a third presidential term at the FIA."
Todt, 71, succeeded former president Max Mosley in 2010 and secured a second term in 2014.
In the letter, he thanked his supporters and said further details on his plans for the years ahead would soon be revealed.
"I am deeply moved by the gracious and unwavering expressions of support I have received from our FIA family," wrote Todt.
"In view of this, together with Michelle, my son Nicolas, and my Leadership team, I have decided to seek a renewed mandate as President of the FIA.
"Over coming months, my team and I will lay out our detailed programme for the term ahead."
The presidency will only go to a vote if a rival candidate comes forward for the role.
