Mahindra driver Nick Heidfeld says he is “all fired up” for the next Formula E round and is looking to add to his previous Monaco podiums.
The German racer has a good history in a range of categories at the Circuit de Monaco, with wins in F3 and F3000, and second place back in 2005 for Williams in Formula 1.
While Mahindra failed to score at the last Formula E race in Mexico, both cars were running in the top 10 before getting caught up in incidents in the closing stages.
The team has showed improved pace so far in the 2016/2017 season and Heidfeld heads to Monaco optimistic of a return to the podium.
“I’m really looking forward to Monaco, it’s a special circuit with lots of history – though it’s a pity we don’t race on the original longer layout,” he said.
“We have shown good pace but we are definitely targeting more points than we’ve had in the last two races. I’m all fired up for a good result, and with the M3Electro this year we have a better chance of winning.
“While there is limited scope for development, I feel the team has worked well to close the margin more and more.
“It would be cool to be on the podium in Monaco for the fourth different single-seater class after my wins in F3, F3000 and my second place in F1.”
His team-mate Felix Rosenqvist will make his single-seater debut in Monaco this weekend and is hoping for a good qualifying result:
“The speed of the car is better than ever: our race in Mexico was so much stronger than the first races this season.
“In Monaco, we need to get a good lap in qualifying to start in the top five. We want to avoid any mess at the first corner and if we start in clean air, we have a greater chance of a strong result.”
