DTM has finalised revised sporting regulations ahead of this weekend’s 2017 season-opener at Hockenheim, including a clampdown on pit-to-driver radio communication.
Under updated regulations, transmitting information from the pits to a driver will be forbidden, placing greater emphasis on the driver to make decisions.
Communication will only be permitted via the pit boards, or when a driver is in the pits, while exceptions will also be made on safety grounds, such as for yellow flags or Safety Car scenarios.
“In the DTM, we want to put the sport into the centre of the attention,” said Gerhard Berger, who has taken over as ITR Chairman this year.
“The DTM has an outstanding and strong field of drivers and the fans want to experience this performance in the races.”
Another major change will see drivers lining up in double-file grid formation for post-Safety Car restarts, while the use of DRS has been limited to just 12 laps, with a total of 36 activations.
Series bosses have also placed a greater emphasis on qualifying, with points being given to the top-three qualifiers in each race.
Pole position will be rewarded with three points, second place with two points and third with one point.
