Sebastian Vettel led a 1-2 for Ferrari during the final practice session for the Chinese Grand Prix, held in dry conditions at the Shanghai International Circuit.

Low-lying cloud on Friday led to only 15 minutes of running across the two sessions, with the medical helicopter unable to land at the designated hospital.

The truncated Friday running placed a greater importance on Saturday’s one-hour session and it was Vettel who wound up quickest, with a time of 1:33.336.

Vettel’s lap, set midway through the session, was 0.053s faster than team-mate Kimi Räikkönen, as the leading group all registered their best times on the Super Soft compound.

Mercedes lagged behind Ferrari, with both Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton completing two runs on the Super Soft tyres late on that hauled the pair up the order.

Bottas finished 0.371s behind Vettel, having run without the upper element of his T-wing after it broke off during the early stages, while Hamilton locked up into the hairpin on his quickest effort, losing a heap of time, and took fourth.

Felipe Massa finished an encouraging fifth for Williams, 1.437s behind Vettel, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo sixth and seventh.

Lance Stroll took eighth position, leaving Renault’s Jolyon Palmer, who earlier spun through Turn 11, and Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz Jr. to round out the top 10.

Other than Palmer, Sauber's Marcus Ericsson was the only driver to spin, having rotated his C36-Ferrari at Turn 8, while Daniil Kvyat was the sole driver to record his best time on the Soft compound, rather than the Super Soft.
