Daniel Abt has lost pole position for the Mexico City ePrix and his time deleted, demoting him to the back of the grid due to running illegal tyre pressures.
The German driver secured only his second Formula E career pole by just one and a half tenths of a second, but now will start 18th behind Stephane Sarrazin.
The illegal tyre pressures on Abt’s car mean Oliver Turvey inherits pole position for NextEV NIO, with Jose Maria Lopez moving up to the front row of the grid.
Jerome d’Ambrosio qualified ninth but was also penalised for not meeting the tyre pressure requirements, so he will line up 19th.
It’s good news for championship leader Sebastien Buemi, who moves up to seventh place, behind Jean-Eric Vergne, Nick Heidfeld, Sam Bird and Antonio Felix da Costa.
Abt’s team-mate and Buemi’s title rival Lucas di Grassi has jumped up several spots to 15th due to the penalties.
