Williams has confirmed that it has retained former Force India racer Paul di Resta as its reserve driver for the 2017 campaign.

Di Resta competed for Force India between 2011 and 2013 before returning to DTM, having clinched the tin-top championship prior to his Formula 1 graduation in 2010.

Di Resta remained associated with Formula 1 through his role as a pundit for Sky Sports, and was recruited as Williams’ reserve driver at the start of last year.

The Briton will continue to act as back-up for regular racers Felipe Massa and Lance Stroll.

“I am delighted to remain at Williams as reserve driver for the 2017 season,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to getting to grips with the controls and procedures of the FW40 and understanding the new regulations.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Claire [Williams] and everyone at Williams for their continued support in being part of the team.”

Deputy team boss Williams added: “It’s great for us to retain someone with Paul’s experience in the team.

“His extensive Formula 1 knowledge will once again be invaluable, especially with new regulations in place for the 2017 season.

“Paul has been a great asset to the team over the past year and it is great that we will be able to continue working with him again in 2017.”
