McLaren has announced that its 2017 Formula 1 car has passed the mandatory FIA crash tests.

The Woking-based outfit joins Force India, Toro Rosso and Haas in revealing its car has cleared crash testing.

F1 enters a new era in 2017, with dramatic changes to the regulations including revised aerodynamics and wider tyres.

McLaren shared the news of the car, set to be named the MP4-32, passing crash tests on Twitter.

Racing director Eric Boullier was quoted saying: "After a lot of hard work, I want to say thanks to those who helped us pass the FIA's crash tests. Now to get it painted!"

McLaren’s new executive director Zac Brown recently said to expect some “livery changes”, with the team using a predominantly black colour scheme with red accents over the last two seasons.

Brown admitted the livery will not be “traditional” and hinted that it could feature orange, the colour McLaren raced with in Can-Am and in F1 from 1968 to 1971.

Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne make up McLaren’s driver line-up for the 2017 season.
