Mitch Evans today confirmed via social media that he will not be participating in GP2 series in 2017.

The New Zealander notched 18 podiums, including five wins, over the course of his GP2 career, but has decided to shift emphasis to his responsibilities with Panasonic Jaguar Racing.

"I'll now focus on my professional career in Formula E which I'm really looking forward to." he said in a post on Facebook.

Evans, and Jaguar team mate Adam Carroll, will be hoping to score the team's first points in at the Buenos Aires ePrix on February 18, 2017, when the 2016-17 Formula E season resumes.

"The time has come to close my GP2 Series chapter" he said as he confirmed that 2016 would would be his last in the feeder series.

"It's been an extremely tough 4 years that has tested my limits on and off track. Even though I didn't achieve my goal of becoming champion, I'm incredibly proud of what I've achieved in this championship."

Evans began his GP2 career in 2013, racing for Arden International after graduating from the team's GP3 team as champion the previous year.

He took four podiums in his rookie year before moving to Russian Time for the next two seasons, where he enjoyed his most successful period in the series, finishing fourth and fifth in the championship in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

His 2016 campaign bore less fruit with Campos Racing, with a win at the Red Bull Ring his sole trip to the podium, on the way to 12th place in the standings.
