Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene has branded Sebastian Vettel’s 10-second time penalty “harsh and unfair”.
The German driver was promoted to third place and the podium after a five-second time penalty was given to Max Verstappen.
But the stewards later awarded Vettel a penalty for moving under braking while battling with Daniel Ricciardo, which dropped him to fifth in the final results.
Arrivabene clearly disagreed with the decision, saying Vettel deserved the podium and it was “taken away by bureaucracy.
“Today could have felt special: we fully deserved this podium, which was taken away by bureaucracy,” he said.
“The whole team had showed great stamina by staying united and focused in a difficult moment.
“Our strategy had made it possible to make good progress through the race and both drivers did a very good job.
“Unfortunately, we were penalised by stewards’ unappealable decision which, in my opinion, is too harsh and somehow unfair.”
