Drivers permitted one helmet change for ‘special’ race

Formula 1 drivers must continue to use the same helmet design throughout the entire season next year, but will be allowed one design change for a 'special' race of their choosing, but must revert back to their original at the next event.

Whilst the FIA introduced the one-season one-helmet rule this year, they've had several requests from drivers to run 'home' helmets or 'one-off' liveries for races such as Monaco. Whilst most requests have been granted, some have been turned down.

The governing body has therefore written into the rules that one change is permitted each year, but it must only be for one event.

"Drivers must continue to present their helmets in substantially the same livery at every event of the FIA Formula One World Championship for easy recognition of the driver in the car, however a driver will now be allowed one event (such as a home race) for a special livery (at the driver’s choice).

"Drivers will also be allowed to change their helmet liveries if changing teams during the season," it added.
