Max Verstappen: No reason to change driving style after Spa incidents

Max Verstappen believes there is no reason to change his driving style despite coming under fire from Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen following clashes during last Sunday's Formula 1 race in Belgium.

Verstappen made contact with Raikkonen at the first corner at Spa, in turn spinning Vettel in an incident that left all three drivers with damage.

Verstappen and Raikkonen duelled on-track after the red flag period, prompting an angry response from the Finn who was forced off-track at Les Combes and accused his rival of moving under braking. Verstappen remained defiant, saying that Vettel and Raikkonen "destroyed" his race at Turn 1.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Verstappen said he is putting Spa behind him and focusing on the upcoming race.

"To be honest, for me Spa is done," Verstappen said.

"I think in general it was a great weekend. I enjoyed it a lot, especially to see so many fans to come to the track with the orange colours, it was amazing to see.

"So for me, what happened in the race, that can happen sometimes. Just focus ahead to Monza."

When asked about the incident at Turn 1, Verstappen said it was evident where the blame lay, and that all three drivers involved could learn from it.

"I think it was all pretty clear," Verstappen said.

"Like I said, I don’t like to stay in the past. What happened there. Just focus ahead. I try to push again and just do my thing and show my driving style like it was before.

"There were no penalties given, so there is no reason to change anything.

"I think everybody always learns. We can all learn from Turn 1.

"That’s something between me, Sebastian and Kimi. I think nobody else was involved in it. It’s about what we can learn from it to do different next time.

"I don’t know what we should have done different, maybe we should have given a bit more space. From my side, it was a bit difficult to give more space. It can happen.

"It was a kind of unlucky situation because Sebastian didn’t see what was on the inside of Kimi."
