Charles Leclerc’s confidence growing with each Haas practice outing

Charles Leclerc says his confidence behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car is growing with each practice outing, to the extent that his GP3 car is beginning to feel alien.

The Ferrari-backed driver currently leads the GP3 championship and has been given the opportunity to take part in five practice outings with the Haas team this season, three of which he has already completed.

The 18-year-old drove at Silverstone, Budapest and Hockenheim, the latter of which he was just under three-tenths shy of Romain Grosjean in the second Haas car.

When asked if driving an F1 car was beginning to feel 'normal', Leclerc replied: "A little bit more, every time I jump in the car, I have more confidence.

"It's only the third time I've gone in it, so I still have a lot to learn, and the car which feels less and less normal now is the GP3 car, as getting back to the GP3 car is a really big difference."

Despite the relatively small gap to Grosjean, Leclerc says the data shows he needs to improve through faster corners, which he is confident will happen during his next outings later this year.

"We have data, so we look at the data, and Romain is really fast in the fast corners, while in the slow corners we are quite similar, but I still need to learn quite a lot in the fast corners," he added.

"I still have a lot to learn and work on and I think I can only improve."
