Koiranen’s Matt Parry dominates first GP3 race in Hungary

Koiranen GP driver Matt Parry dominated the first GP3 race of the weekend at the Hungaroring, after taking over pole position from Nyck de Vries.

Lining up for the start, de Vries stalled his ART Grand Prix car and was forced to line up at the end of the pitlane. Parry led the way into Turn 1, with Antonio Fuoco taking over second place.

Parry was able to quickly establish a clear lead and was unchallenged right to the chequered flag, during a largely uninterrupted and unusually calm GP3 race.

It was the British driver’s first victory in the feeder series and he became the fifth driver to stand on the top step of the podium in 2016.

Jake Dennis and Nirei Fukuzimi spent the majority of the race close together on the track, with the Arden driver beating the ART racer to the final podium.

Ralph Boschung put in a stunning overtake on Charles Leclerc around the outside at Turn 4 in the early laps to snatch fifth, with Leclerc having to settle for sixth and Silverstone victor Alexander Albon finishing seventh.

Arjun Maini was eighth, with Jack Aitken in ninth and Kevin Joerg completing the top 10 despite a warning late on for exceeding track limits.

Alex Palou was 11th, ahead of Matevos Isaakyan, Richard Gonda, Artur Janosz. All 23 drivers finished despite a first lap incident between Tatiana Calderon and Jake Hughes at Turn 7.
