ART Grand Prix’s Nyck de Vries has secured his first GP3 pole position for the opening race of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.
The Dutch driver and McLaren protégé put in a 1m32.979 late in the session to move up the order, beating Koiranen GP’s Matt Parry – who set the pace in practice – by almost five tenths of a second.
Trident’s Antonio Fuoco, one of the race winners last time out at Silverstone, has qualified in third place on the grid, with Arden’s Jake Dennis and de Vries’ team-mate Nirei Fukuzumi next up.
Following his Haas F1 FP1 outing on Friday Charles Leclerc was sixth, with Jack Aitken improving from his practice position to qualify seventh and Silverstone race victor Alex Albon eighth.
Arjun Maini and Ralph Boschung completed the top 10, with Kevin Joerg and Alex Palou in 11th and 12th. Matevos Isaakyan and Artur Janosz were next up.
Richard Gonda, Giuliano Alesi and Tatiana Calderon will start 15th, 16th and 17th respectively, with Konstantin Tereschenko and Jake Hughes down in 18th and 19th.
The grid will be rounded out by Akash Nandy, Sandy Stuvik, Haas development driver Santino Ferrucci and Steijn Schothorst.
A number of lap times were deleted due to drivers running wide at Turns 4 and 11, having gained an advantage by going off track.
