Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel doesn't believe Red Bull's strong showing at the British Grand Prix this weekend is anything to worry about, insisting it was a combination of a poor weekend for them and a strong weekend for Red Bull due to the nature of the circuit.
Vettel started the race down in 11th after taking a grid penalty for a gearbox change, but only went on to finish ninth in the race having struggled for grip in the damp conditions. Meanwhile team-mate Kimi Raikkonen was a lonely fifth, behind the Mercedes and Red Bull cars.
Speaking to reporters including Grand Prix Times after the race, Vettel said Ferrari were targeting Mercedes, not Red Bull and believes the circumstances played to their rivals strengths, but fully expects Ferraro recover at the next race in Hungary.
"We want to win," he said. "I don't really care what is going on behind us, as long as they [Red Bull] are behind.
"It was arguably a strong weekend for them and not a strong weekend for us – but it is the only race this year where in terms of race [pace] we weren't able to fight them and beat them.
"I am pretty confident that things will look different again in two weeks, but that is not an excuse. We had a bad weekend and we have to make sure we address it and take action, move forward and understand why we struggled more than other people."
Admitting the race was a weak one for the Italian team, Vettel is certain things will turn around in their favour and allow them to increase the gap to Red Bull, which now stands at just six points.
"Generally, everyone is improving. We are, other people are, but this weekend was a step back for us in terms of competitiveness, not necessarily a big step up for other people," he added.
"It has been a weak race for us, but I don't think we need to turn the world upside down. We know the car we have and, if you look at the performance [in qualifying], it is more in line, although not the most competitive weekend for us."
