Nico Rosberg insists Lewis Hamilton to blame for last-lap crash in Austria

Nico Rosberg believes team-mate Lewis Hamilton was to blame for the last-lap contact in Austria which saw him drop from the lead to fourth as he crossed the finish line, whilst Hamilton went on to claim his third victory of the season.

The pair were battling for the lead in the closing laps of the Austrian Grand Prix and as the final lap began, a small error by Rosberg at Turn 1 allowed Hamilton to close up and attempt a pass at the next corner.

However Rosberg, suffering with his brakes, went long and into the side of Hamilton's car, forcing him to run wide and rejoin behind, but with Rosberg's car damaged, Hamilton quickly overtook.

Speaking after, Rosberg insisted the blame should lay with Hamilton, despite a stewards investigation suggesting otherwise.

"Absolutely gutted, for sure," Rosberg said. "It's unbelievable. I was sure to win that race, and then lost it on the last lap. Pretty intense.

"We were battling, and I was struggling a little bit with my brakes because they got a bit hot in the end. And my tyres were degrading, so that gave Lewis a chance.

"Nevertheless I was confident I could defend and bring it home, and I had the inside position, strong position, and I went a bit deep into the corner, but that's fine, you know, I dictate, I'm on the inside.

"Then I was just very surprised that Lewis turned in, that caused a collision."

Rosberg is currently under investigation for "causing a collision" and for dangring with a badly damaged car.
