Rene Binder will replace Nobuharu Matsushita at ART GP for the GP2 races at the Red Bull Ring in Austria this weekend.
Matsishita was given a one-race ban for 'driving in an erratic manner' in Baku during two separate Safety Car periods, which included overtaking the Safety Car before the line, and braking and accelerating in a way that caused those behind to make contact with one another.
Binder, who currently races in Formula V8 3.5, enjoyed four years in the series between 2012 and 2015, scoring 16points over four seasons for Lazarus, Arden, Trident and MP Motorsport.
He currently lies fourth in the Formula V8 3.5 standings after taking his second podium of the season at the CIrcuit Paul Ricard.
Hailing from Austria, Binder will be the only home racer at the Red Bull ring in Spielberg, and will be hoping to improve on his twelfth-place finish from two years ago.
“I like GP2 but I still have some unfinished business with it" He said.
"I always said that if there was a chance to get a drive with a top team, I would not hesitate to take the challenge. It will take a few laps to get the feeling for the car and for the Pirelli tyres again.
"However, I am sure that I will get the best possible support from the team who is, without any doubt, amoung the most successful race teams in Europe. I want to thank ART Grand Prix for this great opportunity to drive their car at my home race in Spielberg."
