Lewis Hamilton was once again quickest during second practice for the European Grand Prix in Baku, Azerbaijan, beating team-mate Nico Rosberg by almost seven-tenths to post a lap of 1m44.223s.
Hamilton looked in control for much of the session, whilst Rosberg suffered a technical failure in the final 30 minutes, bringing his session to an early finish. The German had to pull over and walk back to the pits as his W07 looked to suffer an engine issue.
Mercedes' usual rivals, Red Bull and Ferrari, seemed to lack pace as Force India and Williams emerged as their closest competition. Sergio Perez was third quickest, a second adrift, whilst Valtteri Bottas and Nico Hulkenberg completed the top five.
In sixth was Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz – the fastest non-Mercedes powered car, which just so happens to be running a year old Ferrari engine, whilst former team-mate Max Verstappen was seventh.
Sebastian Vettel finished eighth quickest ahead of McLaren's Jenson Button and the second Red Bull of Daniel Ricciado in tenth.
The session saw almost every driver take to the run-off at least once, though none made contact with the barriers, unlike Ricciardo in first practice.
Fernando Alonso, P11, suffered a technical issue consigning him to the garage for the second half of the session, whilst Kimi Raikkonen's rears locked, forcing him to take to the escape road, where he parked his car with just five minutes remaining.
