Andrea Iannone topped the second practice session for the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello on Friday, posting a late-flyer to seal his place at the top of the timing screens.
The Yamaha-bound rider – who on Thursday confirmed he will leave Ducati for 2017 – ended up almost half a second quicker than second-placed Jorge Lorenzo with a time of 1m47.696s – just over a second shy of the lap record.
Michele Pirro took a surprise third as Ducati impressed, ahead of Suzuki's Aleix Espargaro and Marc Marquez completing the top five for Yamaha.
The second Yamaha of Valentino Rossi was sixth fastest, six-tenths off the lead pace as he struggled with rear grip issues.
Maverick Vinales, Scott Redding, Cal Crutchlow and Pol Espargaro completed the top 10, with all covered by less than eight-tenths.
Aspar rider Eugene Laverty was the only faller of the session, while Loris Baz suffered a mechanical problem with his Avintia Ducati that cost him valuable track time.
