Sebastien Buemi and Daniel Abt set the pace in Saturday morning’s two Formula E practice sessions for the Long Beach ePrix.
Championship leader Buemi enjoyed an encouraging start to the day, putting in a 57.383 second lap to end first practice at the top of the timesheets.
Sam Bird was four tenths further back in second place, with Simona de Silvestro showing positive pace in the Andretti car to finish third. Her team-mate Robin Frijns was just 0.006 seconds behind in fourth.
Salvador Duran spent part of FP1 at the top of order but slipped to fifth in the Team Aguri machine, with Stephane Sarrazin, Antonio Felix da Costa, Lucas di Grassi, Nicholas Prost and Abt completing the top 10.
The Mexico ePrix race winner Jerome d’Ambrosio was 13th, with last year’s Long Beach ePrix victor Nelson Piquet Jr. down in 16th for NEXTEV TCR.
Second practice took place a little while later, with Abt ending the session quickest with a best time of 56.778 seconds. He finished just under two tenths clear of Buemi.
Di Grassi, Felix da Costa and Frijns rounded out the top five. Bird, Prost, Bruno Senna, Sarrazin and d’Ambrosio were next up and all finished within seven tenths of Abt’s best lap.
De Silvestro, Loic Duval and Piquet were just outside the top 10. Mike Conway was one of several drivers to graze the barriers of the Long Beach street track in practice and the British driver finished 17th.
