Six-time Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy will make his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year with the Algarve Pro Racing LMP2 team.
He will share the Nissan-powered Ligier JSP2 with Michael Munemann and Parth Ghorpade. It is the latest step in his development programme with Nissan, having previously raced with the manufacturer in the British GT and European Le Mans championships.
Last year Hoy raced a factory-run Ginetta-Nissan and claimed the European Le Mans Series LMP3 title alongside Charlie Robertson.
"In motorsports terms, it’s everything,” the Scottish Olympic champion and driver said on the news. "24 Hours of Le Mans is the pinnacle for me. It’s what I’ve been working for over the past three years.
"To get the news that I have the seat for Le Mans is amazing. I still can’t quite believe it. It’s exciting but there are a lot of steps to take between now and then so I’m trying to focus on the short-term."
Hoy has already completed three LMP2 tests, one with Algarve Pro Racing, and will also drive for the team at the opening two European Le Mans Series rounds.
