Reigning Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion Oliver Rowland has secured a full season with MP Motorsport in the GP2 Series for 2016.
The British racer stormed to eight victories last season for Fortec Motorsports, reaching the chequered flag in all 17 races.
Alongside his Formula Renault 3.5 Series campaign, Rowland also competed in two rounds in the GP2 Series with MP Motorsport, including the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi with Status Grand Prix
Rowland enjoyed success with MP Motorsport as far back as 2013 in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Series, when the Briton ended the season second in the championship with three victories.
Rowland is understandably thrilled to secure a full season drive with the Dutch outfit, and is aiming to make a strong impression within the incredibly competitive GP2 field when the season gets underway.
"Having worked and lived with the MP Motorsport guys in the Netherlands throughout my second year in Eurocup, we developed a really strong relationship which I hope we can capitalise on in GP2 this year,” explained the 23-year-old.
"We quickly re-established that productive partnership with a half decent debut at Silverstone last July. So I hope we can start where we left off and make a strong impression in the paddock in 2016.”
MP Motorsport regard Rowland as an “outstanding talent”, and will be looking to assist him in his quest to reach the pinnacle of the sport.
"Oliver is a fantastic driver and the performances he delivered in Formula Renault 3.5 and in the MP Motorsport GP2 car last year show what an outstanding talent he is,” enthused MP Motorsport team manager Sander Dorsman.
"We are acutely aware that for him this is a make or break year in terms of his Formula 1 aspirations. So we will be doing everything in our power to ensure we engineer a car that will enable him to deliver.”
Rowland will combine his time in the GP2 Series this season with his duties in the newly-announced Renault Sport Academy.
