A. J. Foyt is showing no signs of slowing down or reducing his commitments in 2016 as he plans to attend all 16 races of the 2016 IndyCar season.
Foyt, 81, is an icon of American motorsport who has enjoyed an involvement in racing spanning over seven decades.
Foyt currently heads up A. J. Foyt Enterprises, which has a two-car entry in IndyCar and is represented by Takuma Sato (pictured with Foyt) and Jack Hawksworth.
Foyt underwent triple-bypass heart surgery in 2014 that caused him to miss the opening five races of the 2015 season, while a knee replacement prevented him from going to Pocono or Sonoma at the end of the year.
Speaking to Associated Press at Daytona this weekend, Foyt said that he is determined to attend every round of the 2016 IndyCar season and cheer on his drivers.
"I hope to go to all of them. I’m planning on it,” Foyt said. “Now, how we’re going to go? That’s something nobody can figure out today.
"I’m feeling good. I kind of stagger a little bit and I’m just now getting to where I can walk again and out of the wheelchair and the walker.
"I made up my mind I wasn’t going to walk with no cane. Every now and then, after I’ve been sitting down, I kind of look like I’m drunk.
"You don’t realize at 81 years old you’ve got to learn to walk again. Who would have ever told me that, I would have told you you’re crazy. I’m getting there. Every day is a better day for me."
Foyt has high hopes for the 100th Indianapolis 500 in May, saying: "I hope we win it. We made a lot of changes. I think we’ll run pretty good."
