Lewis Hamilton says he can see himself retiring from Formula 1 in seven years time and most likely whilst still at his current team Mercedes.
The Briton started his career with McLaren in 2007, narrowly missing out on the title by a single point in his rookie season, but went on to secure his maiden crown the following season.
He switched to Mercedes for the 2013 season and hasn’t looked back since, going on to secure another two titles, ranking him amongst the very best in the sport.
Whilst admitting nothing is set in stone, he says he would be happy to end his F1 career with Mercedes.
“I honestly can’t see myself anywhere else,” said Hamilton.
“There was always that talk of driving another car and I have done that – ticked that box off.
“I don’t like to say never, but I think it would be pretty awesome to finish my career with this team.”
When asked when then might be, he replied: “I imagine beyond this three-year deal there could be one more contract of three or four years and that would be it for me.”
That would put Hamilton in the same league as Jenson Button who is currently competing in his 16th season and gives the 30-year-old a shot at becoming a ten-time champion if Mercedes domination continues.
