Ferrari focusing on their car, not Raikkonen’s future

Kimi Raikkonen’s future remains in limbo as Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene admitted his focus is on improving their car, not discussing their 2016 driver line-up.

The Finn has come under increasing pressure to perform after some disappointing races, prompting speculation that Ferrari will replace him with Valtteri Bottas next year.

However he bounced back in Hungary by qualifying fourth and then running second for much of the race until an MGU-K failure, which resulted in his third retirement of the season.

But Arrivabene isn’t busying his mind with driver discussions and has instead put his focus on improving the car to give Sebastian Vettel a shot at the title.

“Our goal now is to focus on the car,” said the Italian. “We have time to talk about drivers [later].

“I thought Kimi was having a great race. Congratulations to him for what he was doing on Sunday.

“Unfortunately something happened and we didn’t have the double.”

With Formula 1 breaking for the summer, including a mandatory two-week factory shutdown, Arrivabene admitted his immediate focus would be elsewhere during that time.

“During the summer, you normally have a break so you are not deciding, working or thinking,” he added.

“You are swimming, climbing, going mountain biking or whatever it is – otherwise it is not a break. It is work.”
