Lewis Hamilton topped the opening practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, whilst Sergio Perez rolled his Force India to bring out the red flags.

The Mercedes driver was just a tenth quicker than his team-mate Nico Rosberg come the end of the session, which was stopped for a second time when Kimi Raikkonen lost his front-wing.

The Finn finished third quickest despite the problems, whilst Ferrari team-mate Sebastian Vettel was only sixth quickest behind the Red Bull pair.

McLaren enjoyed a better session, with Fernando Alonso 11th quickest and Jenson Button 12th. The cars were noticeably quick around the twisty Hungaroring’s slow section, but struggled on the high speed corners.

Lotus endured a troubled session. The team explained it was a consequence of not getting hold of its tyres until Friday morning because of a late payment to Pirelli.
