Manor to get first upgrade since 2014 Australian GP

The Manor Marussia F1 Team will introduce its very first upgrade in almost 16 months at the coming British Grand Prix next weekend.

The revived outfit went through the entire 2014 season with the exact same specification of car, with budget constraints meaning it was unable to develop the chassis or aerodynamics.

Those financial problems eventually led to the teams collapse before it was rescued at the last minute, enabling it to return to the grid this year.

The British GP will now see the introduction of a substantial upgrade, which team boss John Booth hopes will “make life a lot easier”.

“We are bringing some updates to Silverstone which will be quite significant appearance-wise anyway, and hopefully performance-wise as well,” he told F1i.

“They will keep us out of the blue flags a bit longer and make life a lot easier.”

Booth also noted that the upgrade was their first since the 2014 Australian GP when the MR03 originally debuted.

“These really are upgrades which could have been introduced at Silverstone last year if we had the money to make them,” he said.

“This car now – apart from the front of the car to make it 2015 legal – is basically the car that ran at Australia 2014. So it’s nice to bring updates to the car, and it’s good for everybody here and back at base to show a bit of progress.”

Meanwhile it’s expected the team will drop plans to introduce a new car for the 2015 season, which had been expected to debut around late-August, to instead focus on 2016.
