Nico Rosberg closed the gap to championship leader and team-mate Lewis Hamilton by a further seven points after taking victory in Austria.

The German managed to get a great start to jump Hamilton at the frst turn before the Safety Car was deployed following a crash between Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen.

The pair collected one another before coming to a halt with Alonso parked atop Raikkonen’s Ferrari. Both escaped unharmed from the dramatic looking incident.

Hamilton eventually finished second as he had no answer for Rosberg’s pace before a five-second time penalty, awarded for crossing the pit entry white line, eventually ended any race between the pair.

Felipe Massa secured the final podium position after keeping his Williams ahead of Sebastian Vettel. The German endured a slow pit stop which ruined his chances of staying third.

Valtteri Bottas was fifth for Williams ahead of Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg.

Only 14 cars ended the race, with Will Stevens, Jenson Button, Carlos Sainz and Romain Grosjean joining Alonso and Raikkonen in the DNF zone.
