FP1: Hamilton and Rosberg dominate Canada practice

Lewis Hamilton was easily the fastest man in Canada on Friday morning as he posted a 1:16.212 to outpace team-mate Nico Rosberg by more than four-tenths.

Key Points from FP1:

– Mercedes dominated the field, with Hamilton more than 1.5 seconds ahead of Lotus’s Romain Grosjean.

– Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg was fourth fastest, putting Mercedes power from three different teams inside the top four.

– Sebastian Vettel was highest-placed non-Mercedes powered car. The Ferrari driver was almost 1.7s back on the fastest time.

– Hamilton span at the final hairpin, but continued round.

– Meanwhile several cars had to negotiate the new bollards at the the final chicane which are aimed at stopping drivers from gaining an advantage.

– Toro Ross’s Carlos Sainz Jr span at Turn 1 and then 10 minutes later he came to halt at the end of the pit lane and had to be wheeled back to his garage.

– Jenson Button also suffered gearbox problems, reducing his running time to just 45 minutes.
