Lewis Hamilton’s future looks set to be confirmed at the Monaco Grand Prix in a fortnight, with the announcement of a new Mercedes deal which is likely to see him remain at the Brackley-based outfit until at least 2017.
The Briton’s contract has been speculated about over the past few months following delayed talks last year when Mercedes and Hamilton opted to focus on the championship battle, rather than contract negotiations which could have proved a distraction.
However six months after the end of the season and no announcement came, leading to further speculation that he was demanding much more than Mercedes were willing to pay, or that he was considering a switch to Ferrari.
Hamilton rubbished both those claims this weekend: “That is not the case. It is utter bullshit, basically,” he said, adding: “All stories that have come out about money are generally bullshit [too].”
Asked when a new deal would finally be confirmed, he replied: “You’ll see it in Monaco – I will have some news for you in Monaco.”
