Hamilton wins in Bahrain as Raikkonen beats Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton secured his second Bahrain victory after leading from start to finish. The Briton went unchallenged for the win over the 57 lap race.

Hamilton extended his championship lead by another ten points to team-mate Nico Rosberg after the German finished third, behind Kimi Raikkonen.

The Finn’s two-stop strategy brought him in to play in the final few laps before a mistake by Nico Rosberg, which was later revealed to have been caused by a braking issue, saw the German run wide allowing Raikkonen through.

A similar mistake by Sebastian Vettel cost him a better position as he too ran wide whilst defending against Rosberg, only to damage his front-wing. The Ferrari driver eventually finished fifth behind the Williams of Valtteri Bottas.

Daniel Ricciardo was sixth and his engine spectacularly blew up just before he crossed the finish line, though he managed to coast across the line ahead of Romain Grosjean.

Sergio Perez, Daniil Kvyat and Felipe Massa completed the top ten, with the latter having started from the pit lane when his car failed to fire up on the grid.

Fernando Alonso narrowly missed out on points to finish 11th. Team-mate Jenson Button failed to start the race due to an electrical issue.

A double DNF signed off a bad race for Toro Rosso with both Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz Jr failing to reach the checkered flag.
