Sebastian Vettel believes Ferrari will be even quicker in race trim for Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix, allowing them to once again fight with Mercedes for victory.

The German qualified behind Lewis Hamilton by just three tenths, splitting the Briton and his team-mate Nico Rosberg whilst the second Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen starts fourth.

Heading into Sunday’s race, Vettel is hoping for a repeat of Malaysia where he also started second but went on to win the race and he reckons they have the pace to do so.

“We’re very happy with second today,” he noted. “I think it was a tough session.

“At the beginning I didn’t really find the rhythm that I seemed to have in practice, but towards the end more and more it was getting better. I was feeling happier in the car, and I felt more comfortable to push.

“For now, I’m very happy with the front row,” he added.

“Hopefully tomorrow I can have a good start and a good race from there. I think in the race we are maybe a bit closer, so we’ll see what happens.

“Lewis said it will be difficult to beat Ferrari on Sunday. He’s right.”
