Fernando Alonso might be forced to sit out the final pre-season test later this week following his test crash on Sunday.
The Spaniard was airlifted to hospital after hitting the outside wall at Turn 3. He suffered concussion and the impact registered at 15G on the car’s senors.
Whilst a CT and MRI scan have shown no sign of injury, Alonso is likely to remain in hospital for a second night as a precaution.
It’s not certain whether he will take part in the next Barcelona test which starts on Thursday.
“We intend to give him every opportunity to make a rapid and complete recovery, and will evaluate in due course whether or not he will participate in the next Barcelona test,” said McLaren in a statement.
The team may therefore be forced to call upon test drivers Kevin Magnussen, Stoffel Vandoorne or Oliver Turvey if the team feels it would be unfair for Jenson Button to drive on all four days.
