With confirmation that Manor has exited administration, the good news continued on Friday with Ferrari confirming it will supply the team with engines.
Manor, which raced under the Marussia title last season, previously used Ferrari engines but it was thought unlikely that the Italian manufacturer would agree to supply them again due to debts owed standing at almost £17 million ($26m, €23m).
However team principal Maurizio Arrivabene confirmed on Friday that a verbal agreement is in place to allow them to use 2014 engines again, rather than the upgraded power unit which will be available to both Ferrari and Sauber this season.
“We said to them yesterday that we are going to supply them with the 2014 engine,” he said. “There is nothing in writing at the moment.”
Manor is pushing along with plans to finalise a 2015 chassis, which is due to be crashed tested next month, in the hope it can start the season around China or Bahrain – both of which would allow them to collect their owed prize money of roughly £34 million ($46m, €52m).
