The Russian Grand Prix will remain a day light race after scrapping plans to follow in Singapore’s steps and host the event at night this year.
The Sochi circuit has the necessary equipment to run the event under floodlights according to circuit consultant Richard Cregan, who last year hinted that the event would be a night race.
“The infrastructure is there to supply the power for the lighting system, and that has already been checked,” he said.
“It is only a matter of decisions being made.”
However a statement released this week by Sochi organiser Sergey Vorobyev confirms the race will start in the early afternoon.
“This year the grand prix will start at 2:00pm,” he confirmed.
“We will have an opportunity to watch the fascinating Formula 1 race one hour earlier than we did last year,” he added.
The 2015 race is scheduled to take place on October 11th.
