Valtteri Bottas is set to remain at Williams for 2015 as both sides are ready to commit to a contract extension which could see him there even longer.
The Finn has an option on his current deal to continue through next season, but it requires agreement from both sides.
A signature from Williams looks certain as Bottas has impressed the team beyond expectation to secure four podiums in the last five races, putting him fifth in the drivers’ standings.
Head of vehicle performance Rob Smedley reckons they’ve a great line-up, one he wouldn’t want to change.
“I would absolutely love to see [our] pairing continue through next year and that’s the plan, obviously,” he told Crash.net.
“I think that it’s just a great blend of youth, enthusiasm – on both sides – and experience.”
Bottas has also expressed a desire to continue but warned nothing has yet been agreed as it’s believed rivals have been in contact.
“Personally I don’t see a reason to look around at this moment,” he told Autosport.
“But it’s too early to say – it’s better to wait for confirmation, and we will speak when we have something to say.”
