Hamilton still positive despite gap to Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton says he’s not too concerned by the growing gap between him and team-mate Nico Rosberg in the standings.

Another Rosberg victory has put the German 29 points ahead of the Briton, but Hamilton was happy to have recovered from ninth on the grid to second after a mistake on his first flying lap on Saturday and then a spin on his second.

“I’m happy that I’ve managed to recover [from ninth],” said Hamilton who is also aware of the amount of points he’s lost through reliability issues, unlike Rosberg.

“You are always learning lessons, but it’s also good to remember the points I have lost by not finishing.

“I’m 29 points behind, even though I haven’t finished as many races as I would have liked, and there is still a long way to go.

“There are a lot of positives to take from this weekend. I had a lot of pace. I didn’t capitalise on it but I take that into the next race to make sure I do.”

Much was made of Hamilton’s pit stops which, over the course of the race, were just under 1.7 seconds slower than his team-mate’s, but he played down the belief that he could have won had it not been for that.

“I had some problem with my left front wheel on one of them, and I think on the first one I was a little bit long [in the box],” he added.

“Overall I lost two seconds. It was valuable but it wouldn’t have put me first.”
