Formula 1 must look at alternative solutions to increase the volume after Nico Rosberg said the trialled ‘megaphone’ exhaust failed to make the cars any louder.
Mercedes ran a new exhaust exit which resembled a trumpet and is aimed at amplifying the sound of the V6 turbo-charged power unit following complaints that they’re too quiet.
Whilst early reports from the circuit suggested it had improved the sound slightly, Rosberg said he couldn’t hear any difference from within the car.
“Unfortunately it didn’t change anything,” he said after.
The German added that Mercedes would still push to find a solution though if it’s what the fans want.
“We will keep pushing and we want to as a team for the sport to make things louder, so we need to keep pushing and try some other solutions because this was not the right solution.”
