Bernie Ecclestone has admitted, during his first visit to hear the new Formula 1 cars in person, that they’re louder than he first thought.
The 83-year-old has long complained about the new V6 power units and following complaints from Australian Grand Prix organiser Ron Walker that they’re not getting what they paid for, he travelled to Malaysia to hear them in person.
Whilst he claims he’s being bombarded with complaints, he did admit that they’re louder than they come across on television.
“That’s exactly the problem,” he said in response to the Singapore GP organiser joking about lowering the hosting fee because of the noise. “All the promoters are complaining,” he said.
“It sounds terrible on television. The problem isn’t that. The problem is the people coming here and the whole atmosphere of F1.
“It’s a little louder than we thought. If we can get it up a little bit more, if I can get it up, it will be alright.”
