Daniel Ricciardo has been stripped of his second place finish at the Australian Grand Prix after the FIA found Red Bull had exceeded the maximum fuel flow limit.
After the race, a statement released by FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer confirmed that Ricciardo’s RB10 had “exceeded consistently the maximum allowed fuel flow of 100kg/h.”
Bauer referred the matter to race stewards who summoned Red Bull to discuss the matter.
A lenghty wait, in which the race stewards spoke to both Ricciardo and team principal Christian Horner, resulted in the decision that the Australian should be disqualified.
Red Bull immediately confirmed they would appeal the decision.
“Following the decision of the FIA that Infiniti Red Bull Racing is in breach of Article 3.2 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations and Article 5.1.4 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations with car three, the team has notified the FIA of its intention to appeal with immediate effect.
“Inconsistencies with the FIA fuel flow meter have been prevalent all weekend up and down the pit lane. The team and Renault are confident the fuel supplied to the engine is in full compliance with the regulations.”
The decision sees everyone behind Ricciardo promoted a place, handing Jenson Button the final podium position and promoting Sergio Perez into the points.
