Davide Valsecchi has revealed that he’s yet to be paid by the Lotus team for his third driver responsibilities throughout 2013.
The Italian’s claims won’t help to quell fears about the team’s finances which are known to be tight after they also failed to pay Kimi Raikkonen’s rumoured £12 million ($20m, €15m) salary.
Valsecchi revealed that, whilst his salary is tiny in comparison, he’s not yet received a penny, though he’s confident he will soon.
“According to my contract, my salary was like that of a waiter,” he revealed to F1Passion.
“They [Lotus] haven’t paid me yet,” but he noted that Lotus have “always behaved well towards [him].
“I’m sure that as soon as they’ll be in a position to do so, they’ll solve their debt.”
The 26-year-old former GP2 champion, who’s expected to lose his third driver role at Lotus for 2014, says he hasn’t given up on remaining in F1, but a desire to race in IndyCar remains.
“I won’t stop exerting myself to have a steering wheel in my hands soon,” he added. “In the meantime, I don’t conceal my desire to get into IndyCar.”
