Brawn: ‘2014 car hitting all its targets so far’

Ross Brawn is confident he has left Mercedes in good shape for the 2014 season after revealing the W05 is hitting all the targets they hoped it would at this stage.

The Briton has now left the team after choosing to take a six-month sabbatical from Formula 1. However he believes the changes he implemented during his time there, will put the team in good standing amidst the major regulation changes.

“These regulation changes of the magnitude that we have got for 2014, they are great opportunities and I hope we are grabbing this opportunity,” he told Autosport.

“We have certainly put enough resource and effort into it. I’m pretty comfortable with the way that we have approached it.”

The 59-year-old is satisfied that Mercedes efforts in 2013, in which they fought until the very end to secure second in the Constructors’ Championship, won’t have an impact on next year’s preparations.

“I am pretty happy,” he added. “I think it has been a good balance.

“I’m not looking back being worried that we did not put enough resource into 2014. Seeing where the car is now, it is pretty much on schedule. It’s achieving most of the targets we wanted to achieve.

“We have been working on it for quite a long time. That’s one of the advantages of having Geoff [Willis] and Aldo [Costa] on the team.

“So I don’t think we’ve had to make any heavy compromises in terms of keeping the programmes [2013 and 2014] running well together.”
