Sebastian Vettel topped the second practice session for the United States Grand Prix, giving a far more accurate picture of the competitive order after a shortened FP1.

The German was just a tenth quicker than team-mate Mark Webber, whilst the Mercedes pairing of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were third and fourth.

Kimi Raikkonen stand-in Heikki Kovalainen impressed with the fifth fastest time of the afternoon to put him two tenths ahead of Romain Grosjean in eighth.

The Ferrari’s were a lowly tenth and 12th, with Fernando Alonso leading Felipe Massa.
