Lewis Hamilton has compared the 2013 season to that of when Michael Schumacher dominated the sport and won five championships in a row.
The Mercedes driver suggested Sebastian Vettel’s current run of success, which is likely to see him win a fourth straight title, could be putting fans to sleep – as was the case for many between 2000 and 2004.
“He [Vettel] has won already, unless he doesn’t finish the rest of the races,” said Hamilton. “And, even if he doesn’t [finish], he has probably still won it.”
The Briton believes the lack or variety is bad for the sport’s fans.
“I feel for the fans because I remember the period of time when Michael Schumacher was winning,” he added.
“I remember waking up in the morning to watch the start of the race and then going to sleep, and then waking up when it ended because I already knew what would happen.
“I am pretty sure a lot of people were doing that, at least in my family.”
