Pastor Maldonado says he refuses to change the way he races even if it taints his reputation, which some would argue is already tarnished after an incident filled Formula 1 career.
The Williams driver is no stranger to the stewards and he added another penalty to his CV last time out in Belgium after being awarded a stop-go penalty for causing a crash with both Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta.
Whilst he staunchly disagreed with the ruling, he refuses to change the way he drives even if it has a negative impact on his reputation in the paddock.
“I’m racing, this is racing,” he said. “My reputation is another thing.
“I will race and if some people think something about me then they are free [to think that]. I cannot say ‘don’t think that’.”
When asked if he believed he was ‘picked on’ by the stewards, he replied: “If you make a mistake you must be penalised. But the decision they take sometimes can be quite strong. That’s my opinion.
“It depends how is the view from their side. It’s like football. It’s always difficult to say from the outside, and even [difficult to explain] from the inside if you are trying to explain to them and they are not properly in the place. I think what happened in Spa is clear; very clear and obvious. And I think it’s unfair that I got the penalty.”
