Team managers have agreed a new penalty which will come into effect this season should a car be released without all four wheels securely attached.
The FIA called a meeting on Thursday amongst all 11 teams to discuss the recent pitlane accident which saw an FOM cameraman suffer a broken shoulder and ribs when he was struck by a tyre from Mark Webber’s RB9.
In an attempt to encourage teams to take more care during stops, the race stewards will demote a driver ten places at the next event should he exit his pit box without all four wheels attached during any session.
A proposal to introduce a minimum pit stop time gained no support from the teams as they believed it would detract from the sport. Therefore the idea, proposed by the FIA, was dropped.
