The Austrian Grand Prix will be revived for the 2014 season it has been announced, after the Red Bull Ring – formerly the A1 Ring – struck a deal with Bernie Ecclestone.
The circuit, which last hosted an F1 race in 2003, has undergone intensive redevelopment after it was bought by Red Bull billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz.
A statement released by the circuit confirmed the news.
“Dietrich Mateschitz and Bernie Ecclestone have reached an agreement to the effect that Formula One will return to Styria next year,” it read.
The statement added that the event was pencilled in for July 6th next season.
Along with the Austrian GP, two other races are expected to join the calendar with the inaugural Russian and New Jersey races planned for next season.
That would take the current calendar to 22-races – though it’s believed the Korean GP could be dropped.
