McLaren have chosen to go against the current trend of running current race drivers and rookies at the upcoming Silverstone test.
The Woking squad has instead opted to only run ‘young’ drivers in the form of Kevin Magnussen, Olivery Turvey and regular test driver Gary Paffett.
The trio will analyse a number of developments as McLaren struggles to understand its MP4-28 which, despite nine races having past, is still well off the pace.
“The Silverstone young driver test will be an extremely useful opportunity for us to conduct further investigative work into the effects of aerodynamic and mechanical changes to the car,” explained team principal Martin Whitmarsh.
“Just as importantly, it’ll be a proper opportunity for our test and development drivers to further develop their knowledge and understanding of modern Formula 1 machinery, while simultaneously allowing them to help us refine the correlation between the track and the simulator.”
20-year-old Danish driver Magnussen will drive on the first day (Wednesday), followed by 26-year-old Oliver Turvey on Thursday and finally 32-year-old Gary Paffett on Friday.
