Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were all called to see the stewards – which includes Nigel Mansell – after second practice for breaching the regulations.

Raikkonen was unsafely released from his pit box during FP2 and therefore the Lotus team were reprimanded for the offence. The Finn wasn’t penalised.

Mercedes driver Hamilton was reprimanded for “not staying to the right of the bollard at the pit entry as defined in the race director’s notes to team managers,” read the steward’s statement.

It added: “However, as no other cars were in the vicinity the offence is not regarded as too dangerous and it did not impede another competitior.”

This is Hamilton’s first reprimand of the season – drivers who accumulate three, face a ten place grid penalty.

Bottas meanwhile was caught speeding in the pit lane by 9.8 km/h. Under an agreement between the FIA and GPDA, the team pays any fine for such an offence.

Williams were therefore fined €1,000.
